How to Get Verified on TikTok and Get the Blue Check
Apply for the TikTok blue check from your settings, meet each criterion TikTok checks, and tell the badge apart from a Verified Business Account.

You get verified on TikTok by applying in the app: go to Settings and privacy, then Account, then Verification, and submit a request with news coverage that shows you're notable. TikTok doesn't charge for the badge and doesn't look at your follower or like count. It does need your account to be complete, active, authentic and covered by multiple news sources.
What the blue check means on TikTok
The verified badge is the blue check mark next to an account's name in search results and on the profile. It tells people the account has been reviewed and really represents the person, business or brand it claims to be.
TikTok opens verification to individual creators, businesses, institutions, nonprofits and official brand pages. The badge isn't an endorsement from TikTok, and TikTok can remove it at any time without notice.
Check the four requirements before you apply
TikTok looks at whether an account is recognized, active, authentic and notable. Follower and like counts aren't part of the decision.
| Requirement | What TikTok asks for |
|---|---|
| Recognized | A name, profile photo, bio and at least one public post |
| Active | You've logged in to TikTok within the past 6 months |
| Authentic | The account represents a real person, business or institution |
| Notable | You're featured in multiple news sources |
Authentic depends on what you're verifying. Personal verification requires identity verification. Business verification requires a Verified Business Account or an Organization Account. Institution verification requires official proof of affiliation.
Notable is the hard part. TikTok wants credible written media coverage, such as news articles, and it doesn't count sponsored or paid media, social media posts, or outdated or irrelevant articles. If the only coverage you have is a paid placement or a repost of your own videos, wait until you have real press before applying.
All verified accounts also have to follow TikTok's Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. TikTok can deny or revoke a badge if an account meets the criteria through artificial or inauthentic activity.
Request verification in the TikTok app
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu button (☰) at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Verification.
- Tap Start, then follow the steps to submit your request. Include your news coverage: TikTok requires credible written media coverage to support an application.
If your account is registered as a Government, Politician or Political Party Account, you can only apply for institutional verification.
TikTok sends the result through your TikTok notifications within 30 days. If you're rejected, the notification shows the reason and a waiting period. Fix what it names, then resubmit after that period. The full rules are on TikTok's verified accounts page.
The blue check is not the same as a Verified Business Account
This is where most people get confused, because both use the word "verified." TikTok's own account types page puts it plainly: verifying your business account is a separate process from receiving a verified badge. Its Business Help Center adds that the blue check is for high-profile accounts such as celebrities and major brands.
| Blue check (verified badge) | Verified Business Account | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A badge showing the account is notable and authentic | An account type for promoting a business |
| How you get it | Settings and privacy, Account, Verification | Settings and privacy, Account, Business verification |
| What you submit | Identity or business proof plus news coverage | A valid business license for your region, legal business name and license ID |
| Who qualifies | Notable people, brands and institutions | Anyone 18 or older with a business license, any account size |
| Decision time | Within 30 days | Typically 1 to 5 business days |
| What you get | The blue check | Business Suite, a profile website link, business contact info on the profile, the Commercial Music Library |
The two do connect in one way. A business that wants the blue check needs to be a Verified Business Account or an Organization Account first. And if a verified business stops being a Verified Business Account, TikTok can take the badge away.
Going the business route has trade-offs. Verified Business Accounts are always public, and they can't use TikTok's general music library, only the Commercial Music Library of songs cleared for commercial use. TikTok also advises against switching between Verified Business and General accounts, because business verification isn't saved and you'd have to verify again. Our guide to the TikTok business account has more on choosing an account type.
If you're a creator rather than a business, TikTok recommends a General TikTok Account, which it describes as the right fit for creators and most public figures.
How to keep your badge
TikTok can remove a verified badge without warning. Reasons it lists include:
- Changing your username yourself. Submit a username update request instead of editing it directly.
- Transferring the account to a new owner.
- Losing Verified Business Account or Organization Account status, for business badges.
- Repeated or severe violations of the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.
If you ever want the badge gone, open the Verification page and tap the TikTok Support button at the top.
Watch out for verification scams
TikTok doesn't charge anything to get verified, and anyone claiming to sell TikTok verification isn't connected to TikTok. TikTok also doesn't contact people by email, direct message or other messages asking them to apply for a badge. The only exception is Government, Politician and Political Party Accounts, which TikTok may contact about verification. If someone messages you offering a blue check, report it.
Turn profile visits into clicks with Olaa
A badge can make more people tap through to your profile, and the number of profile views is worth watching after you're verified. What they can reach from there depends on your bio link. General TikTok Accounts need at least 1,000 followers to add a website to their profile, and Verified Business Accounts can post one too. You add it under Edit profile, next to Links.
Once you have that link, Olaa makes it count: olaa.im/yourname opens one page with all your links, plus music and video players (including TikTok) that play right on the page. The free plan includes unlimited links and a QR code, and setup takes a few minutes with no code. See how it works for TikTok creators, or read how to add a link to your TikTok bio.
FAQ
How many followers do you need to get verified on TikTok?
None. TikTok says it doesn't consider the number of followers or likes when granting a verified badge. It looks at whether your account is complete, active, authentic and covered by multiple news sources.
How much does TikTok verification cost?
It's free. TikTok doesn't charge for verification and says anyone selling TikTok verification isn't affiliated with it. Report anyone offering to sell you a badge.
How long does it take to get verified on TikTok?
TikTok notifies you of the decision within 30 days of submitting your request. Business verification for a Verified Business Account is faster, typically 1 to 5 business days, but it doesn't give you the blue check.
Does a Verified Business Account get a blue check?
Not automatically. TikTok says verifying your business account is a separate process from receiving a verified badge. A business that wants the blue check applies through Verification and has to be a Verified Business Account or Organization Account to qualify.
What if TikTok rejects my verification request?
Check the rejection reason in your notifications, then resubmit after the waiting period it shows. Use that time to strengthen what was missing, such as a complete profile or credible news coverage that isn't sponsored.
Can I change my username after getting verified on TikTok?
Yes, but submit a username update request rather than changing it directly. TikTok lists changing your username directly as one of the reasons it removes verified badges.
