Your Instagram link is always instagram.com/ followed by your username, so if your username is @maya.bakes, your link is instagram.com/maya.bakes. To copy it in the app, go to your profile, tap Share profile, then tap Copy link. On a computer, open your profile and copy the address from your browser's address bar.

That covers most people. The rest of this page goes through each device step by step, plus post and reel links, your QR code, and where the link is most useful.

Your Instagram URL is your username

Instagram builds every profile address the same way: instagram.com/[username]. Instagram's help center says that if your account is public, anyone can see your profile and posts by visiting that address on the web. No setting creates it and no app is needed to generate it. It exists as soon as your account does.

That gives you a quick way to write it out from memory:

  1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
  2. Look at the username at the top of the screen.
  3. Type instagram.com/ and then the username, with no @ sign and no spaces.

If you'd rather not type it, copying it straight from the app (next section) removes the risk of a typo in a username full of dots and underscores.

The steps are the same on iPhone and Android:

  1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap Share profile.
  3. Below your profile card, tap Copy link.

The link is now on your clipboard, ready to paste into a text, an email or another app's bio field.

The same screen has a few other options worth knowing:

OptionWhat it does
Share to... (iPhone) or Share (Android)Opens your phone's share sheet so you can send the card to another app
Copy linkCopies your profile link
DownloadSaves the card to your phone as a profile card video or a QR code
Add to storyAdds your profile card to your Instagram story

Instagram notes that profile cards currently aren't available to everyone and only exist in the iPhone and Android apps. If you don't see Share profile, update the app, or use the computer method below, or simply type out instagram.com/yourusername.

Find your Instagram URL on a computer

Instagram on the web shows your link right in the browser:

  1. Go to instagram.com and log in.
  2. Click your profile picture on the left to go to your profile.
  3. Click the address bar at the top of your browser. It reads instagram.com/yourusername.
  4. Copy it (Ctrl+C on Windows, Cmd+C on Mac).

This is also the easiest way to check how your link looks to people who aren't logged in. Open it in a private browser window. If your account is private, Instagram says only people logged in and approved to follow you will see your posts, though some profile information is visible to anyone.

Sometimes you need a friend's or a brand's link to tag or credit them. In the app:

  1. Go to the profile you want to share.
  2. Tap the icon in the top right.
  3. Below their profile card, tap Copy link.

You can share anyone's profile card, even if you don't follow them. That screen also offers Send to drop the profile into an Instagram message, and Messages (iPhone) or SMS (Android) to start a text with the link in it.

To send a profile without leaving Instagram, there is also the More options menu in the top right of a profile: tap Share this profile, pick the person or group, and tap Send. A profile sent this way is only visible to people who can already see it.

Get a link to a specific post or reel

A profile link sends people to your whole grid. When you want them to see one photo, carousel or reel, copy that post's own link instead.

In the iPhone or Android app:

  1. Open the post or reel.
  2. Tap Send below the post.
  3. Tap Copy Link at the bottom.

On a computer:

  1. Open the post.
  2. Click Options next to the post.
  3. Click Copy link.

One catch, straight from Instagram's help center: if the account that posted the content is private, the links you share can only be seen by followers of that account. If you want a post link to work for everyone, the account needs to be public.

Use your Instagram QR code for print and in person

Your profile card includes a QR code that anyone can scan to land on your Instagram profile. It's handy on a shop counter, a menu, a flyer or a slide at the end of a talk, anywhere a typed URL would be a chore.

  1. Go to your profile and tap Share profile.
  2. Tap Download to save the card as a QR code or a profile card video.

You can restyle the QR side of the card before you save it. Tap Color at the top and keep tapping to cycle through Color, Image, Emoji and Selfie. With Image, tap Choose image to pick a photo and Customize image to blur it. Our Instagram QR code guide goes deeper on using the code.

To scan someone else's code, go to your profile, tap Share profile below your bio, tap the icon in the top right, and hold your camera over their code. A QR code only opens a profile. It can't be used to log in to Instagram.

Once it's copied, put it where people already look for you:

  • Other social bios. Your TikTok, YouTube and X profiles are the obvious places. Our guide to adding your Instagram link to TikTok shows where TikTok accepts it.
  • Your email signature. A plain "Instagram: instagram.com/yourname" line works in every email app.
  • Your website footer and any online shop pages.
  • Printed material, using the QR code above.

If you change your username later, your profile URL changes with it, because the URL is your username. Go back and update the link everywhere you pasted it. Instagram says big accounts may have a username change reviewed first, and your followers may be notified.

Your Instagram link sends people to Instagram. The problem usually runs the other way: you have more than one place to send people from your Instagram bio. That's what a link in bio page is for, and our pillar guide on how to add a link to your Instagram bio walks through the bio side.

Olaa gives you one short link, olaa.im/yourname, that opens a page with everything you want people to find. You add your Instagram link there as a social icon next to your other profiles, alongside links, music and video players, and booking or form links. The free plan includes one page, unlimited links, every look, font and background, a QR code and 7 days of analytics. Setup takes a few minutes and needs no code. You can see everything on the features page.

FAQ

What is my Instagram website URL?

It's instagram.com/ followed by your username, with no @ sign. If your username is @studio.north, your URL is instagram.com/studio.north. You can confirm it by opening your profile on a computer and looking at the browser's address bar.

Why don't I see Share profile on my profile?

Instagram says profile cards currently aren't available to everyone, and they only exist in the iPhone and Android apps. Update the app and check again. If it still isn't there, type out instagram.com/yourusername or copy the address from a browser.

Can people without Instagram open my link?

If your account is public, anyone can see your profile and posts at instagram.com/yourusername on the web. If it's private, only people logged in and approved to follow you see your posts, though some profile information is visible to everyone.

Does my Instagram link change if I change my username?

Yes. The link is built from your username, so a new username means a new link. Update it in your other bios, email signature and website after the change goes through.

How do I copy the link to a reel?

Open the reel, tap Send, then tap Copy Link at the bottom. On a computer, click Options next to the post and choose Copy link. If the account is private, only its followers can open that link.

Can I share someone's profile if I don't follow them?

Yes. Go to their profile, tap the icon in the top right, and choose Copy link or another option below their profile card. Instagram lets you share anyone's profile card, even if you don't follow them.
