How to Repost on TikTok (and Undo a Repost)

Repost any TikTok video in two taps, find your reposts on your profile, control who sees them, and remove a repost when you change your mind.

To repost on TikTok, open the video in the TikTok app, tap the Share button and tap Repost. You can also press and hold on the video and tap Repost. The video then shows up in your friends' and community's For You feed with a repost label, and it's saved under the repost tab on your profile.

Undoing it is just as quick: open the same video, tap Share, then Delete repost. Here is every way to do both, who can see what you repost, and how a repost differs from sharing, Stitch and Duet.

Repost a video in two taps

TikTok gives you three ways to repost from the app. They all do the same thing.

  1. In the TikTok app, go to the video you'd like to repost.
  2. Pick one:
    • Tap the Share button on the side of the video, then tap Repost.
    • Press and hold on the video, then tap Repost.
    • If friends already reposted it, tap their profile photo at the bottom of the video, then tap Repost.

There's no confirmation screen. As soon as you tap Repost, the video is reposted, so if you tapped it by accident, use the removal steps below.

When a friend's repost appears in your feed, you can reply to it. Tap your friend's profile photo at the bottom, tap Reply, type your reply and tap the Send button.

Know who sees your reposts

A repost looks like any other post in the For You feed, with one difference: it carries a repost label plus the profile photo and nickname of the person who reposted it. That's how your followers know it came from you and not from the original creator directly.

Who can see your reposts depends on your account privacy:

Your accountWho sees your reposts
PublicOthers can see your reposted content, your repost text and replies to your reposts on your profile
PrivateOnly your followers can see your reposted content, on your profile and in their For You feed

One thing catches people out. Anyone who can see your repost can reply to it, and your comment privacy settings don't apply to repost replies. If you've limited who can comment on your own videos, that limit won't carry over to replies on your reposts. You can delete replies you don't want (see below).

Find your reposts on your profile

Everything you've reposted is kept in one place.

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Open the repost tab on your profile.

That tab is the quickest way to review old reposts or clean them up. It's also part of what people see when they land on your profile, so it says something about you. If you're curious how many people actually visit your profile, our guide to TikTok profile views covers what TikTok shows you.

Undo a repost on TikTok

To remove a repost, start from the video itself. Each method uses slightly different button names, so look for the one that matches your path:

  1. In the TikTok app, go to the video you reposted. Your repost tab on your profile is the easiest way to find it.
  2. Pick one:
    • Tap the Share button, then tap Delete repost.
    • Press and hold on the video, then tap Remove repost.
    • Tap your profile photo at the bottom of the video, then tap Remove. If friends reposted it too, their profile photos show there as well, so make sure you tap your own.

Removing a repost also deletes every reply to it. If a conversation under your repost matters to you, keep that in mind before you remove it.

TikTok doesn't document a way to remove all your reposts at once, so plan on going through them one video at a time from your repost tab.

Delete a reply to your repost

If you want to keep the repost but lose one reply:

  1. Go to the video you reposted.
  2. Tap your profile photo at the bottom.
  3. Press and hold the reply, then tap Delete.

If the Repost option isn't there

TikTok's help pages don't explain why Repost might be missing for a particular account or video. Its general fixes for sharing problems are worth trying first: switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, clear the app video cache, restart the app and your phone, and make sure you're on the latest version of TikTok. The steps above are for the TikTok app, so try there rather than in a browser.

Repost, share, Stitch or Duet: pick the right one

All four start from the same Share button, and they do quite different things.

OptionWhat it doesWhere it shows up
RepostPasses someone's video to your friends and community, labeled as your repostYour friends' and community's For You feed and the repost tab on your profile
ShareSends the video to a person or another appWherever you sent it, such as a message
StitchUses a part of someone's video as part of a new video you recordOnly on your profile, as your own post
DuetPuts your video side by side with theirs in a split screen, playing at the same timeOnly on your profile, as your own post

Share is the private, one-to-one option. Tap Share, choose how you'd like to send it, then follow the steps for that app. When you send a video to a friend on another platform, TikTok also sends it to them on TikTok, as long as they tap the link and allow direct messages from others. If you see Save video in the Share menu, the creator has downloads turned on. If you don't, they haven't.

Stitch suits a reaction or an answer. Tap Share on the video, tap Stitch, choose the part you'd like to use, tap Next, then record your part.

Duet suits playing along. Tap Share, then Duet at the bottom (you may need to swipe to find it), and record next to the original.

With Stitch and Duet, the original video stays on the creator's profile and your new video appears only on yours. Not every video allows them: the creator needs a public account and needs to have the feature turned on. If you'd rather people didn't Stitch your own videos, go to Profile, the Menu ☰ button, Settings and privacy, Privacy, Reuse of content, then Allow reuse of content from. Turning Stitch off also changes who can Duet your posts, make stickers from them, or add them to their Story.

If you post on Instagram too, our guide on how to repost on Instagram walks through it.

Turn reposts into visits

A repost puts a video in front of more people, but it doesn't carry a link to anything you sell or make. One link people can tap on TikTok is the website link on your profile, which you can add once you have at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account. Our guide to adding a link to your TikTok bio has the exact steps.

Since that's one link, many creators point it at a page that holds everything. That's what Olaa does: one short link, olaa.im/yourname, opening a page with your links, music and video players that play right on the page, social icons and more. The free plan covers one page with unlimited links, every look and font, and a QR code, and it takes a few minutes to set up with no code. FAQ

Can people see what I repost on TikTok?

Yes. Reposts appear in your friends' and community's For You feed with your name and photo on them. On a public account, anyone can also see them on your profile. On a private account, only your followers can.

How do I see all my reposts on TikTok?

Tap Profile at the bottom of the app and open the repost tab. That's where your reposted videos are collected.

What happens to replies when I remove a repost?

They go too. TikTok deletes every reply to a repost when the repost is removed. To get rid of a single reply instead, tap your profile photo on the reposted video, press and hold the reply and tap Delete.

Is reposting the same as sharing on TikTok?

No. Reposting puts the video in front of your followers and saves it to your profile's repost tab. Sharing sends it to a specific person or another app of your choice.

Can I repost my own TikTok video?

TikTok's help page describes Repost as a way to share posts you find interesting with friends and community, and it doesn't say whether that covers your own videos. If the Repost option appears when you tap Share on one of your own videos, it works the same way as on anyone else's.

Why can't I Stitch or Duet a certain video?

Not every video allows it. The creator needs a public account and has to have Stitch or Duet turned on, and turning Stitch off also limits Duets. If the option is missing from the Share menu, that video simply isn't open to it. You can read TikTok's own Repost help page for the full details.
