Yes, you can schedule posts on Instagram, right in the app. Make your post or reel as usual, tap More options, turn on Schedule this post or Schedule this reel, pick a date and time, and tap Schedule. You need a public account, and you can schedule up to 25 posts a day, up to 30 days ahead.
If you'd rather plan from a computer, Meta Business Suite does the same job. Tools like Later and Buffer make sense once you're juggling several accounts or networks.
Schedule a post or reel in the Instagram app
The built-in scheduler handles reels, single photos and carousel posts.
- Tap Create in the top left, or swipe right anywhere in Feed. Then tap Post or Reel.
- Select your photo or video and tap Next.
- Add your caption, effects or filters.
- Tap More options.
- Turn on Schedule this post or Schedule this reel, then choose a date and time.
- Tap Done.
- Tap Back.
- Tap Schedule.
Your scheduled post keeps whatever privacy and audience settings you had when you scheduled it.
The limits Instagram sets
| Rule | What Instagram's help center says |
|---|---|
| Account | Must be public |
| How far ahead | Up to 30 days |
| How many | Up to 25 posts a day |
| What you can schedule | Reels, photos, carousel posts |
| What doesn't work | Product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored posts, fundraisers |
You may see 75 days and "professional accounts only" in older write-ups. Instagram's help center now says 30 days and a public account, so plan around that.
If a post won't schedule, check the list above first. A collab invite or a product tag will block it. Remove it, schedule the post, or publish that one live.
Edit, reschedule or post early
Plans change. You can get to your queue two ways.
From your profile:
- Go to your profile and tap Menu in the top right.
- Below Your insights and tools, tap Scheduled content.
- Tap Options next to the post or reel.
- Choose Delete, Edit post, Reschedule or Share now.
From the create screen:
- Tap Create, then Post or Reel.
- Tap Scheduled.
- Select the post or reel, tap Options, and choose Delete, Edit post, Reschedule or Share now.
Share now is handy when news breaks and you want the post out today instead of Friday.
Schedule from a computer with Meta Business Suite
Meta Business Suite is Meta's tool for creating and scheduling posts for Facebook and Instagram together. You need full control of, or content permission for, the Instagram account. If your account isn't set up for this yet, our guide to Instagram business accounts walks through switching.
To schedule a post on desktop:
- Go to Meta Business Suite.
- Click Create post, from the home page or the Content tab.
- Under Post to, select your Instagram profile. You can pick your Facebook Page too.
- Under Media, add your photos. Instagram posts take up to 10 photos.
- Under Post details, write your caption. You can write a different version for Facebook and Instagram.
- Under Scheduling options, choose the date and time. Click Active times to see suggested times based on when your followers were most active over the past 7 days.
- Click Schedule.
For a reel, click Create reel instead, choose your Instagram profile under Post to, add your video and details, click Next, then pick a date and time. You can't build an Instagram reel from photos in Business Suite, so start from a video.
To change something later, click Content in the left menu, open the Posts & reels tab, and select Scheduled. Click the ... icon on the post, then Manage post, where you can Edit post, Reschedule post, Move to drafts or Delete post. The Planner shows everything you've scheduled in a weekly or monthly view, and Business Suite also has a mobile app.
Use Later or Buffer for more accounts and networks
Third-party schedulers are worth it when you post to several networks or manage more than one brand. Both of these auto publish to Instagram business and creator accounts. Prices below are in US dollars from each company's pricing page, read October 2026.
| Tool | Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Later | Starter | $25/mo | $18.75/mo | 1 social set (8 profiles), 30 posts per profile a month |
| Later | Growth | $50/mo | $37.50/mo | 2 social sets, 180 posts per profile a month |
| Later | Scale | $110/mo | $82.50/mo | 6 social sets, unlimited posts |
| Buffer | Free | $0 | $0 | Up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel |
| Buffer | Essentials | $6 per channel/mo | $5 per channel/mo | Unlimited scheduled posts |
| Buffer | Team | $12 per channel/mo | $10 per channel/mo | Unlimited scheduled posts |
Later schedules Instagram posts, Stories and Reels, and every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. It suits people who post often across several platforms or manage more than one brand. Later has its own link in bio page too, which we look at in our Later link in bio review.
Buffer schedules Instagram image and video posts, carousels of up to 10 images, stories and reels. Its pricing is per channel, so it suits creators with one or two accounts who want low monthly costs, and the free plan is enough to try it. Some reels and stories, such as ones with music, stickers, links or collaborators, switch to a reminder notification so you finish posting in the app. Personal Instagram profiles only get reminders, not automatic publishing.
Keep your bio link in step with scheduled posts
Scheduling solves the posting. The weak spot is the caption that says "link in bio" when the bio still points at last week's launch. A few habits help:
- Update the link before the post goes live, not after. Put it on the same calendar as the post.
- Point the bio at a page, not a single URL, so each new post adds a link instead of replacing one.
- Order links by what's newest, so the person arriving from today's post sees today's link first.
Our guide to adding a link to your Instagram bio covers the bio setup itself.
Schedule your links too with Olaa
Olaa is a link in bio tool: one short link, olaa.im/yourname, that you put in your Instagram bio, opening a page with everything you want people to find. The free plan gives you one page with unlimited links, and setup takes a few minutes with no code.
The part that pairs with scheduled posts is scheduled links, part of Olaa Pro at $8 a month or $72 a year. You can line up the link for Friday's post alongside the post itself instead of remembering to swap it in by hand. Pro also adds countdowns for launches and 30 and 90 day analytics. See everything Olaa does.
FAQ
Can you schedule posts on Instagram without another app?
Yes. Instagram's own app schedules reels, photos and carousel posts from the More options screen when you create a post. Meta's own Business Suite schedules from a computer.
How far ahead can I schedule Instagram posts?
Instagram's help center says up to 30 days in advance in the app, with a maximum of 25 scheduled posts a day. Older articles mention 75 days, but Instagram's current page says 30.
Can I schedule Instagram reels?
Yes. Turn on Schedule this reel under More options in the app, or click Create reel in Meta Business Suite and choose a date and time. Later and Buffer also schedule reels.
Why can't I schedule my Instagram post?
Check that your account is public. Then look for features that don't work with scheduling: product tags, collaborators, sponsored post labels and fundraisers. Remove them or publish that post live.
Do I need a business account to schedule on Instagram?
For the app's built-in scheduler, Instagram's help center asks for a public account. Later and Buffer auto publish to business or creator accounts, and Buffer sends personal profiles a reminder to post instead.
