How to Make a Linktree: Sign Up, Add Links and Go Live
Create a Linktree step by step, add and style your links, see what the free plan covers, and put your new link in your Instagram and TikTok bio.
· 7 min read

To make a Linktree, go to linktr.ee/register, sign up with your email, pick a username (it becomes linktr.ee/yourusername), choose a plan, then add your links in the Links tab and pick a theme in Design. The free plan is enough to get a working page. The last step is pasting your full Linktree URL into your Instagram or TikTok bio.
The whole thing takes a few minutes. Below are the exact steps and button names from Linktree's help center, current as of October 2026.
Sign up and claim your username
You can start on the web or in the Linktree app for iOS or Android.
- Go to linktr.ee/register and select Sign up.
- Enter your email address. Type it carefully: Linktree sends a verification to it.
- Choose a username. This is the part after linktr.ee/, so pick something people will recognize, ideally your Instagram or TikTok handle.
- Select a plan. You can compare plans here, and Free is an option.
- Follow the prompts to add your first links and pick a theme.
You can create more than one Linktree under the same login later, for example one for a side project.
Add your links in the Links tab
Every button on your page is a link. Linktree also has Link Apps, such as music, Calendly and Cameo.
- From My Linktree, select Edit.
- In the Links tab, select + Add.
- Enter the URL, or search for a Link App (music, Calendly, Cameo and more).
- Add a Title. This is the text on the button, so make it say what people get ("New single out now", not "Click here").
- Choose a thumbnail if you want one.
- Choose a layout: Classic, or Featured for a bigger, expanded card.
- Complete any other settings that appear.
To change the order, tap and hold the six vertical dots on the left of a link and drag it. Put the thing you most want clicked at the top.
If you're on an iPhone, you can also add a link from your browser's share menu without opening the Linktree app.
Add social icons
Social icons are the small logos that link to your other profiles.
- In the Links tab, select the + next to Social Icons.
- Select + Add Social Icon and search for the platform.
- Enter your profile URL or handle and select Add.
Under Position, you can put the icons at the Top or Bottom of your page.
Customize the look in Design
Linktree suggests adding your links before you design, so you can see how it looks with real content.
- From My Linktree, select Edit, then Design.
- Pick what to change:
- Theme: choose Curated for a ready-made look or Customizable to build your own.
- Header: your profile image, title and bio.
- Wallpaper: a background color.
- Buttons: shape and color.
- Text: font and text color.
- Stickers: small decorations.
- Select Save.
Two limits catch people on the free plan: curated themes marked with a lightning bolt need Pro or Premium, and image or video backgrounds need Pro or Premium too.
What's free and what you pay for
These are Linktree's US prices from its pricing page on October 17, 2026. Prices vary by region and show in local currency.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Unlimited basic links, email and phone sign-ups, QR code, 28 days of analytics |
| Starter | $8/mo | $6/mo | Personalized Linktree, unlimited featured links, basic analytics, 90 days of history |
| Pro | $15/mo | $12/mo | Remove Linktree branding, custom designs, mailing list integrations, 365 days of history |
| Premium | $35/mo | $30/mo | Link rules and routing, all-time analytics, data export, social scheduling, unlimited Instagram auto-replies |
Pro and Premium both offer a 7-day free trial.
If you plan to sell, read the fine print. Linktree's help center says selling digital products needs Pro or Premium and is only available in certain countries. The pricing page is inconsistent on the fee: the Pro card says "Sell and earn with 0% fees", while the comparison table lists a 9% fee on Pro and 0% on Premium. Stripe's processing fee (typically 2.9% + $0.30 per sale) applies on every plan. Check the fee shown in your account before you price anything.

Put your Linktree in your Instagram and TikTok bio
First copy your URL: on the Links page under My Linktree, select Share, then Copy next to your URL.
- In the Instagram app, go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links, then Add external link.
- Paste your full Linktree URL, including https:// (for example https://linktr.ee/yourusername).
- Save.
Instagram allows up to five links in a bio. More on layout and wording in our Linktree for Instagram guide.
TikTok
On TikTok, tap Edit profile and look for the Website field. It only appears for eligible accounts, and eligibility depends on your followers, account type and region. Business accounts with fewer than 1,000 followers may be asked to register the business, which is only offered in some countries. If you don't see the field yet, our TikTok bio link guide covers the workarounds.
If a warning shows up
Instagram and TikTok sometimes show their own warning when someone opens a bio link. Linktree says it can't control these. To check, open your profile in a browser while logged out and tap the link, or ask a friend to try it.
Tips that make a Linktree work harder
- Keep it short. A handful of clear buttons is easier to scan than a long list. Archive or delete old links instead of stacking them.
- Lead with one thing. Use a Featured layout for the link you most want clicked this week.
- Write button text people can act on. "Book a table" tells people what they'll get. "Website" doesn't.
- Use the QR code offline. Select Share, then My Linktree QR code, and download a PNG or SVG for flyers, menus or merch. It points to a unique URL, so it keeps working if you change your username. See our Linktree QR code guide.
- Check your numbers. Free keeps 28 days of history, enough to see which buttons get tapped.
Another way to build the same kind of page
Linktree isn't the only option. If you want image backgrounds and every look without paying, Olaa's free plan includes them. It's a link in bio tool that gives you one short link, olaa.im/yourname, and setup takes a few minutes with no code.
The free plan includes one page, unlimited links, every look, font and background, a theme pulled from one of your photos, music and video players that play on the page (Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok), Calendly bookings and Google Forms that open on the page, a QR code and 7 days of analytics. Olaa Pro is $8 a month or $72 a year and adds products with photo and price from Stripe, Etsy, Shopify or Gumroad (checkout happens in your shop and Olaa takes no cut), email signups to Mailchimp, up to 10 pages and no Olaa badge. You can compare everything on the features page, and our roundup of Linktree alternatives puts the main tools side by side.
FAQ
Is Linktree free to make?
Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and includes unlimited basic links, email and phone sign-ups, a QR code and 28 days of analytics. You pay only if you want things like removing the Linktree branding, image backgrounds or longer analytics.
How do I make a link tree on Instagram?
You build the Linktree on linktr.ee or in the Linktree app, not inside Instagram. Then in Instagram tap Edit profile, Links, Add external link, and paste your full URL including https://. It shows up as a tappable link in your bio.
Can I change my Linktree username later?
Yes, Linktree lets you change your username. Your QR code keeps working after a change because it points to a unique URL rather than your username. Your old linktr.ee address in bios and posts will need updating.
Can I make more than one Linktree?
Yes. Linktree lets you create another Linktree under the same login, which is handy for a second brand or project. Each one gets its own username and URL.
Why is my Linktree link not clickable on TikTok?
TikTok only makes bio links clickable for eligible accounts, so typing a URL into the bio text won't create a link. Look for the Website field in Edit profile. If it isn't there, your account doesn't qualify yet.
Do I need the Linktree app?
No. Everything works in a web browser at linktr.ee. The app for iOS and Android is useful for quick edits from your phone and lets you sign up there too.
