For most accounts, you can't add a clickable link to an Instagram post. A URL typed into a caption or a comment shows up as plain text that nobody can tap. The clickable places are your bio, the Link sticker in stories, product tags if you have a shop, direct messages, and, since September 2026, captions on posts and reels for people paying for Meta One.
Why links in captions don't work
Paste a web address into a caption and Instagram keeps it as ordinary text. The only tappable things in a normal caption are @mentions and hashtags, and both lead to places inside Instagram, not to your website. Comments and replies work the same way: a URL there is plain text too.
So the honest answer to "how do I make a link clickable in my post" is: for most accounts you don't, you put the link somewhere Instagram does make clickable and point people to it.
Every place a clickable link works on Instagram
| Where | Clickable? | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|
| Post and reel captions | No, plain text | Everyone, unless you pay for Meta One |
| Comments and replies | No, plain text | Everyone |
| Profile (bio) links | Yes, up to 5 | Everyone |
| Story Link sticker | Yes | All accounts except new ones and repeat rule breakers |
| Product tags | Yes, to the product | Businesses and creators with an approved shop |
| Direct messages | Yes | Everyone |
| Ads and boosted posts | Yes, as a button | Anyone running an ad |
| Captions with Meta One | Yes, a monthly allowance | Public accounts on Meta One Advanced or higher |
Your bio. Your profile is the one place every account can put a clickable link, and you can add up to five. In the app:
- Go to your profile.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links, then Add external link, and paste your URL.
- Tap Done, then go back.
To change the order, go to Edit profile, Links, tap Options, then Reorder links and drag them. Our guide to adding a link to your Instagram bio covers this in detail.
Stories. The Link sticker turns a story into a tappable link to any website. The full walkthrough, including custom sticker text and keeping links in Highlights, is in how to add a link to an Instagram story. A good habit: share each new post to your story with a Link sticker underneath, so people who see it there can tap straight through.
Product tags. If you have an approved shop on Instagram, shopping tags put tappable products on your posts, reels and stories. A tag leads to the product, and people finish buying on your website. In a reel you can tag up to 30 products or a collection: while creating it, tap More options, then Tag Products. Tags come from your shop's catalog, so this doesn't work for an arbitrary web page, and Instagram has stopped allowing product hyperlinks in captions and profiles. More on getting set up is in how to sell on Instagram.
Direct messages. A link you send in a DM is tappable. Many accounts use this on purpose: the caption says "comment LINK and I'll send it to you", and they reply to each commenter with the URL in a message. It takes more effort than a bio link, but the link lands right where the person will see it.
Ads and boosted posts. Paid posts get a clickable button that opens your website. Stories ads carry a call-to-action sticker instead of the Link sticker.
Clickable links in posts with Meta One
Meta launched Meta One on September 15, 2026, a paid subscription across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI. Its creator and business plans let public Instagram accounts add a real, clickable link to a post or reel. Teen accounts can't use it, and Meta is rolling the plans out gradually, so pricing and availability can differ by country and account.
| Plan | Price | Posts with links per month | Reels with links per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advanced | from $49.99 a month | 4 | 4 |
| Expert | from $149 a month | 8 | 8 |
| Max | from $499 a month | 12 | 12 |
Posts and reels have separate allowances. They reset when your subscription renews, and unused links don't roll over. Links to Meta's own apps, product links from a Meta catalog and links in ads don't count toward the limit.
If you have the plan, adding a link works like this:
- Write a caption. A link can't be added without one.
- Tap Add link. It shows a Meta One label and how many links you have left.
- Enter or paste the URL.
- Tap Done, then share the post or reel.
Check the link carefully before sharing, because it can't be edited afterward. The steps and limits are on Meta's help page for Meta One links.
Before Meta One, Instagram tested clickable caption links with some Meta Verified subscribers in March 2026, with a reported cap of 10 links a month. That was a limited test, so if you saw it on someone else's account, it doesn't mean you have it.
For most creators and small businesses, a few linked posts a month isn't worth $49.99. The free routes below cover nearly every case.
Make "link in bio" work for you
"Link in bio" is the standard workaround: the caption tells people where the link is, and your profile holds the clickable version. It works best when you make the path short.
- Say exactly what they'll find. "Recipe at the link in my bio" beats "link in bio". Name the thing.
- Keep your bio link matched to your newest post. If the caption promises a recipe, the first thing people see after tapping should be that recipe.
- Share the post to your story with a Link sticker. Story viewers can tap straight through without visiting your profile.
- Put the URL in a DM for anyone who asks. Those links are clickable.
If you post often, swapping the bio link for every post gets old quickly. That's why most accounts use one link page that lists everything at once. Our explainer on what "link in bio" means goes through how that works.
How Olaa fits in
Olaa is a link in bio tool: one short link, olaa.im/yourname, that opens a page with everything you want people to find. Put it in your Instagram bio, and every "link in bio" caption has somewhere useful to send people.
The free plan gives you one page with unlimited links, every look and font, a theme pulled from one photo, music and video players that play on the page, featured cards to put your newest post's link on top, and 7 days of analytics so you can see what people tap. Olaa Pro, $8 a month or $72 a year, adds products from Stripe, Etsy, Shopify or Gumroad with checkout in your own shop (Olaa takes no cut), scheduled links so tomorrow's link goes live on time, email signups sent to Mailchimp and up to 10 pages. Setting it up takes a few minutes and needs no code. See how it works for Instagram or the pricing.
FAQ
Can you put a clickable link in an Instagram caption?
Not on a regular account. Caption URLs show as plain text. The exception is Meta One, a paid subscription from $49.99 a month that lets public accounts add a set number of clickable links to posts and reels each month.
Are links in Instagram comments clickable?
No. A URL in a comment or reply is plain text, just like in a caption. If someone asks for a link in the comments, send it to them in a DM, where links are tappable.
Can I add a link to a reel?
Not in the caption on a regular account. You can tag products in a reel if you have an approved shop, or add a link with Meta One, which gives separate monthly allowances for posts and reels. Otherwise, point viewers to your bio or share the reel to your story with a Link sticker.
Can I edit a Meta One link after posting?
No. Meta One links can't be edited once the post or reel is shared, so check the URL before you tap Share. If the link is wrong, you'll need to share a new post with the right one.
How many links can I put in my Instagram bio?
Up to five. Add them under Edit profile, Links, Add external link. If you need more than five, or want them to look like more than a list of URLs, use a single link page in one of those slots.
